It can be difficult to know whether you are classified as a "maritime worker," and are therefore eligible for Longshore benefits. Longshore benefits are usually more generous to the injured worker than state workers' comp benefits; if you have any question about whether your work injury qualifies you for Longshore benefits, be sure you understand your rights before you act on the claim. |

Longshore
Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation claims apply to people injured on the job in maritime settings. By extension, the Longshore act also applies to various other non-maritime workers (civilian contractors hurt on U.S. military bases overseas, nonappropriated fund instrumentalities act workers, and a few others). Longshore claims are unique in their remedies and procedures, and in some cases you can have both a state workers’ compensation claim and a Longshore claim at the same time.
If you have been hurt and think that you may have a Longshore claim, please call. Remember: There is never a charge to have the law explained to you.
