It can be difficult to know whether you are classified as a "maritime worker," and are therefore eligible for Longshore benefits. Longshore benefits are usually more generous to the injured worker than state workers' comp benefits; if you have any question about whether your work injury qualifies you for Longshore benefits, be sure you understand your rights before you act on the claim.

Longshore

Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation claims apply to people injured on the job in maritime settings. By extension, the Longshore act also applies to various other non-maritime workers (civilian contractors hurt on U.S. military bases overseas, nonappropriated fund instrumentalities act workers, and a few others). Longshore claims are unique in their remedies and procedures, and in some cases you can have both a state workers’ compensation claim and a Longshore claim at the same time.

If you have been hurt and think that you may have a Longshore claim, please call. Remember: There is never a charge to have the law explained to you.
